Synergy - the working together of two or more things, people, or organizations, especially when the result is greater than the sum of their individual effects or capabilities
Momentum toward your health goals is generated when all components of fitness are incorporated into your workout program. The four elements that must be present in a well rounded fitness plan are :
- Heart - through cardiovascular workout
- Skeletal muscles - through strength training
- Joints - through flexibility exercises.
- Nutrition - through a balanced diet and nutritional supplements
Some exercise is always better than no exercise. If your fitness program is lopsided with one or two of the same activities, however, you will not get the best results. Any exercise regime, for example, is less effective without a proper sport nutrition plan to fuel it.
A balanced exercise plan works and fuels all elements of the body. Each element contributes to overall health, and supports the performance of other elements. Just as your physical activities should be varied, so too should your diet, to enable the body to meet demands placed upon it. The use of nutritional supplements, as well as a vitamin and mineral rich diet prepares the body for peak performance.
Driving The Car
Having synergy in your exercise program is like turning a car while driving down the road. It's much easier to turn the wheel while the car is moving than when it is sitting in your driveway. Momentum allows you to steer the car, just as momentum allows you to continually progress in your workout program.
Rolling The Snowball
Another example of having synergy in your workout program would be rolling a snowball. Once the momentum has started, it keeps building and building. Momentum alone won't keep you on track, however.
Keep in mind that it is very easy to only do certain exercises that you like, and those that take less effort. This strategy, however, is not effective. In the end, the lack of balance in your exercise routine creates the need to work harder and longer to achieve your fitness potential. Each fitness element effects others. By neglecting flexibility training, for example, the effectiveness of your cardio and strength training efforts is lessened.
In a Nut Shell
It is really important to have all areas of fitness working together and in the most effective way possible. Consider type of exercise and nutrition as components of over all fitness and health. When all the parts work, the machine as a whole works better. Excluding any part of your fitness routine is asking for failure.
